Biography
Darius Shu is a British cinematographer based in London. His work spans narrative drama, fashion, music promos, and commercials, with a strong commitment to visual storytelling that elevates underrepresented voices and Asian narratives. In 2023, Darius lensed the BAFTA-nominated documentary Always, Asifa and the Netflix documentary Peach Paradise. His cinematography on Queer Parivaar (BFI Flare 2024) won Best British Film at the Iris Prize 2022, both directed by Shiva Raichandani. Most recently, he shot Where We Came From (2024), starring Emmy-winning Archie Panjabi. He served as the 2nd Unit Director of Photography on Justin Lin's Last Days, premiering at Sundance Film Festival 2025, and recently shot his first feature, Slim, directed by Sky Yang and executive produced by Chi Thai. Darius's directorial work has been recognised at internationally renowned BAFTA, Oscar, and BIFA-qualifying festivals. His debut short film, His Hands (2019), premiered at Tribeca Film Festival, where it was nominated for Best Narrative Short. His second film, I Am Norman (2021), premiered at the Oscar-qualifying Rhode Island International Film Festival. Most recently, his sci-fi film PLOP (2025) was selected In Competition at the Manchester Film Festival 2025. He is currently in post-production on Molly, his latest British East Asian film and first original screenplay. With a passion for humanistic storytelling, Darius crafts visually compelling poetic narratives that resonate deeply. His commitment is to continue to amplify diverse voices and create bold, socially conscious cinema.
