Biography

Spanish director and screenwriter. In 1975 he directed, together with Liko Pérez and Fernando Campos, the Venezuelan feature film, Todos y nadie. Together with Liko Pérez he directed the following film: Adiós, Alicia (1977), also Venezuelan. In 1980 he was the screenwriter for Vicente Aranda's film La muchacha de las bragas de oro, based on the novel of the same name by Juan Marsé. His next feature film, already on his own, was La casa del paraíso (1982). Three years later he released Crimen en familia (1985) and, in 1987, Ana, pasión de dos mundos, also known as El señor de los llanos. In 1991 he shot Hay que zurrar a los pobres and the drama Solo o en compañía de otros, based on the crime of the Marquises of Urquijo, a Spanish noble couple who were murdered in their home in Madrid in 1980. In 1995 he released Tatiana, la muñecas rusa. His latest feature film, shot in Madrid, is Azaña (2008), a film about the president of the Second Spanish Republic, Manuel Azaña (1880–1940), played by Jordi Dauder. The feature film focuses its story between 18 and 21 July 1936, when the coup d’état that led to the Spanish Civil War took place.
