Tawfiq Al-Hakim (1898-1987) was an Egyptian writer and literary figure, widely regarded as one of the greatest icons of Arabic literature in the 20th century. Born in Alexandria, Egypt, he was one of the pioneers who blended Western theatrical art with Arab themes, laying the foundation for modern Egyptian theater. He initially pursued a career in law but soon shifted his focus to literature and theater. His works, such as "The People of the Cave," "The Return of the Spirit," and "The Sultan’s Dilemma," are considered pivotal in the development of Arabic drama. Al-Hakim's style is marked by philosophical depth and symbolism, tackling social, political, and intellectual issues with boldness and originality.
