Synopsis

New Zealand's Next Top Model, Cycle 1 is the original season of New Zealand's Next Top Model which is a reality TV show based on America's Next Top Model. Thirteen young women compete for the title and a chance to start their career in the modeling industry. The prize for this cycle was a contract with 62 Model Management, a 1-year contract with CoverGirl cosmetics, a 8 page editorial in CLEO Magazine, an all expenses paid trip to Sydney to meet with Ursula Hufnagl of Chic Model Management and a trip to New York to meet with NEXT Model Management. The catchphrase for this season is "Our Turn To Turn Heads". The international destinations for this cycle were Sydney, Australia, where the final seven judging panel was held, and then Los Angeles, United States for one episode with six contestants. The winner was 16-year-old Christobelle Grierson-Ryrie from Auckland, New Zealand. New Zealand's Next Top Model, Cycle 1 has aired on TV3 in New Zealand and FOX8 in Australia.

Episode 1

13 March 2009 - Casting

After an extensive nationwide search 33 girls from all over the country were invited to Queenstown to appear in the premiere episode of New Zealand’s Next Top Model. The novice models were expected to strut their stuff in front of a very special guest, put their best foot forward in a gruelling audition, and take part in a physically challenging photo shoot. It didn’t take long for the drama to unfold, with one girl suffering a health crisis, while another found herself the centre of attention – for all the wrong reasons. And after all that, only 13 were invited to move into the Top Model house in Auckland, in the hope of becoming New Zealand’s Next Top Model.

20 March 2009 - The Girls Fly High

13 girls re-locate from Queenstown to the Top Model house in Auckland. Their first lesson reveals one real contender... and a suprise winner at the very first challenge causes controversy right from the get-go. The models' inaugural photo shoot has them aiming high - but one eager contestant crash lands and the judges send her packing.

27 March 2009 - The Girls Take The Streets

12 girls remain in the Top Model house... and they all need to embrace their inner street cred. Meanwhile one girl really lets the side down when her inner demons overwhelm her...

03 April 2009 - The Girls Get Transformed

There are tears aplenty when Sara, Colin and Chris enlist the help of legendary hair stylist Paul Serville to bring out the best in the 11 remaining girls. Plus - the models face a runway challenge with a difference and their first full-on fantasy photo shoot.

10 April 2009 - The Girls Pose In Haute Couture

After last week's elimination, 10 girls remain in the Top Model house. A few home truths are revealed when the models receive a surprise visitor, which leaves one contender feeling very isolated.

17 April 2009 - The Girls Are Diamonds In The Rough

The girls are first put through their paces with a posing lesson, then left hanging in a high flying challenge. A funky photo shoot features timless accessories, but for one - the clock is ticking... and her time in the Top Model house is nearly over

24 April 2009 - Cycle One Rewind (recap)

It's been quite a ride for the eight girls who remain in the Top Model house... they came from all over the country to Queenstown, where 13 were chosen to live in a cliff top mansion, all with the ultimate dream of becoming New Zealand's Next Top Model. Along the way there have been tears, tantrums, amazing runway challenges and the girls, along with New Zealand fashion and our beautiful country, have all been showcased in a series of stunning photo shoots.

01 May 2009 - The Girls Get Dirty

Eight girls remain in the Top Model house. This week they face the music with some top telly tips, they get to mix it up with one of New Zealand's hottest bands. Tongues wag over a steamy photo-shoot and the green-eyed monster makes an appearance when one model gets singled out for special attention

Only 7 girls remain in the Top Model house, and following another controversial runway challenge, the girls receive one shock after another at the elimination they never saw coming.
