The Real World Season 22

Synopsis

The Real World: Cancun is the 22nd season of MTV's reality television series The Real World, which focuses on a group of diverse strangers living together for several months in a different city each season, as cameras document their lives and interpersonal relationships. Cancun, Mexico was first announced as the location for the season on Jan 26, 2009. It is the fourth season of the series to be set outside the United States, after The Real World: London, The Real World: Paris, and The Real World: Sydney. Series co-creator Jonathan Murray explained the choice of Cancun, saying, "Cancun is a good one to do after Brooklyn, which was a more gritty environment." Primary production completed in April and was not affected by the swine flu outbreak in Mexico. Executive Producer Jim Johnston said, "We had stopped production before this thing reared its ugly head." The season premiered June 24, 2009 and was viewed by 1.4 million viewers, the smallest debut ever for a season of The Real World at the time. The American synthpop band LMFAO has a guest appearance in Episode 7, which ties into the cast's work assignment. Bunim-Murray Productions also shot an unscripted 2003 movie called The Real Cancun, although it was unrelated to the series. Mexico also served as the season vacation spot for the cast of The Real World: Los Angeles, and Cancun in particular served as the vacation spot for the casts of The Real World: Hollywood and The Real World: Las Vegas, with the latter using the same suite as the 2009 season.

Episode 1

24 June 2009 - Yes We Cancun!

This season takes The Real World across the border into Cancun, Mexico. Eight new strangers move into their ME Suite in Cancun, Mexico and get to know each other. CJ seems to be the heartthrob of the house, but after snuggling with Emilee, his previous relationship comes to an end. Joey is quick to sow his wild Cancun oats and hooks up with a local girl while Bronne makes out with the girls mom

01 July 2009 - Jerkface Joes and Romeos

Jonna and CJ find themselves getting close, whereas Ayiiia and Joey's feud continues. Also, the roommates meet up with their new boss and are told what job they will be doing.

08 July 2009 - I Kissed a Girl And I Liked it (At First)

Things between Ayiiia and Emilee heats up. Meanwhile, the guys vent over their frustrations concerning Ayiiia.

15 July 2009 - Cancun Casanovas

Jasmine has her eyes set on Pat, a StudentCity boss; and Derek receives a visit to the Cancun house by his ex.

22 July 2009 - Payback, Piglets and Projects

Tension within the Cancun house has reached an all-time high when Joey attempts to send Ayiiia home.

29 July 2009 - Flirting With Disaster

One roommates job and stay in Cancun may be in jeopardy due to irresponsible behavior. Also, Jonna receives a visit from her boyfriend.

12 August 2009 - Settling DIF-frences

When she is rejected by Pat, a devastated Jasmine turns to alcohol to cope with her emotions as Jonna and Pat get closer. The roommates raise money to help DIF, a local Cancun children's charity.

19 August 2009 - The Love Square

Jasmine hooks up with Pat's cousin, JR, which drives Jonna and Pat closer together and Jonna breaks up with Matt. Also, Bronne's antics get him banished from the ME hotel.

Episode 10

26 August 2009 - Three's a Crowd

Ayiiia begins to miss her boyfriend Ryan and sets her sights on Jonna, which ends in a threesome between Pat, Jonna, and Ayiiia. Tension rises between Jonna and Emilee over Jonna keeping the threesome a secret from her.

Episode 11

02 September 2009 - Love Bites

One cast member has been sent to jail. Emilee incurs Bronne's wrath after destroying his prized magazines.

Episode 12

09 September 2009 - ¡Adios Cancun!

Season 22 ends as the roommates say their good-byes and leave Cancun.
